1816 Burnside Cafe

I ordered a chicken schnitzel sandwich. The chicken schnitzel was manufactured chicken ( frozen packet ) not chicken breast. It had a square slice of cheap packet cheese and some lettuce leaves with a squirt of mayonnaise. The server took a while to bring it out. I inquired about the delay to discover she was microwaving it!! It arrived with oily melted cheese and slimey green sludge that used to be lettuce leaves. I explained that it was not a good idea to microwave lettuce. The water in the plant ceIls burst and it will turn to slimey green sludge. It by the way was a 38c day anyway!! She said this is what the chef told her to do.I doubt there is a chef. I suspect there’s an absent owner who prepares the food but I doubt they’ve ever eaten this culinary abomination. I asked if there was an email to send my comments to the chef/owner but was told no. The coffee was just passable. Milky like milo rather than coffee. I’m sorry they didn’t pass the cafe test. Hope the council reviews their lease and puts someone in who can run a business properly next time. 1816 Cafe is 1816 out of 10,000.

Came here for breakfast with my kid and we had a great time. The place has a really nice and relaxing vibe. The croissant was delicious, coffee was great, and the fries were super tasty too. My little one loved it and we left happy on our way to the library!

A great place to relax and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. This cafe is simply amazing!

Although I was only waiting for a short time, the staff were very friendly and the coffee was excellent.

Recently started using this cafe on my study days in the library. Coffee is good. The selection of food is okay. The ‘sun room’ style cafe is inviting and relaxing. I believe it is under new management and is no longer open on a weekend which is a shame. Would be nice for the cafe to be open longer on nights the library is open late. If the cafe opened on weekend, even if just half day Saturday and Sunday they would get enough trade. But happy with the coffee and service. Look forward to it each week.

Under new management. I was greeted with warm and friendly staff today. The inside was cool and just lovely to sit back on the couch and watch the world go by. The iced coffee was deceptively large and strong in flavour. There were adequate cakes and baked items, along with a kitchen menu. Support local..especially in this economy
